At the start of the CIVID19 Pandemic, just as the shutdown began. Residents took to the community groups to discuss their frustrations over food insecurity. The average income of a Madison Heights Resident is just over $22,000 per year. Many of our residents rely of free lunches to feed our children while in school, and now, everyone was home. In response to this, not only was the Madison Heights Food Pantry born, but we created the group Victory Gardens, where neighborhood experts helped neighbors plan gardens in preparation for what could be one of the biggest food insecurity crisis our town has ever seen.

Members of this group trade advice and education to plan food and pollinator gardens, which became the talk of the town for all of 2020 and beyond. Now with over 1,000 followers, the group communicates with neighbors and gardeners all over the world.
