Our first ever PRIDE Picnic came in after we successfully convinced Madison Heights City Council to raise the Progress PRIDE Flag in support of representation of the LGBTQ+ Community. We planned to have the event no matter what the outcome, but on that day, hundreds of residents showed up to celebrate our success. This potluck picnic featured family reunion style games and entertainment, followed with a gathering of attendees for community members to speak up about their experiences belonging to the LGBTQ+ Community. The event was FREE to attend and cost nothing to organize. It was amazing to see so many residents, young and old, gather to show each other support. We will host this event annually moving forward.
